Ffern Perfume Reddit Community Reviews

Written by

If you are thinking of buying Ffern perfume, and spent way too much time digging through Reddit posts, figured I’d share what I found so you don’t have to waste your time too.

The Good

  • Nice packaging: “The packaging was amazing and luxurious, with a story, a sample of the perfume to test, and little gifts.” (14+ upvotes)
  • Easy returns: “The return was smoothly done and I received my refund shortly after I returned it.” (14+ upvotes)
  • Some do like the scents: “The smell was amazing, fresh & cozy” (14+ upvotes)

The Not So Good

  • All smell the same: “I’ve been subscribed for three years and have never liked a single fragrance. They all smell the same: incredibly pungent herbals like the essential oil blends you get at a health food store except less wearable.” (21+ upvotes)
  • Repetitive releases: “Each season when they release a new batch of perfume they smell the same as the last.” (17+ upvotes)
  • Skin reactions: “It smelled awful, gave me contact dermatitis (first and only time that’s happened to me from a perfume!)” (22+ upvotes)
  • Misleading marketing: “I joined for the gourmand autumn fragrance. It is not, in fact, gourmand. It’s expensive hay. I returned it.” (16+ upvotes)

What They’re Actually Like

  • Natural but muddled: “Ffern fragrances are natural, herbaceous, floral, and highly ‘organic’ (as in, smell like living matter). They often smell quite muddled, and of course choose not to use synthetics.” (17+ upvotes)
  • Essential oils, not perfume: “I cancelled my Ffern membership. They never felt like fragrances, more like a combination of essential oils – they smelt so similar as a result.” (11+ upvotes)

Tips If You Still Want to Try

  • Sample first: “I am not buying anything without testing thoroughly.” (19+ upvotes)
  • Go to their store: “If you’re really keen, I think they have a shop in Soho in London where you can smell and buy in person.” (22+ upvotes)
  • Buy secondhand: “If you really want to try a specific perfume, you can usually pick them up cheaply on resale sites pretty soon after release.” (12+ upvotes)

Worth It?

It seems like Ffern is pretty divisive. While many people criticize the marketing tactics and find the fragrances too similar, others genuinely enjoy the natural, herbaceous qualities and beautiful presentation.

If you like natural perfumery and appreciate thoughtful packaging, you might enjoy their offerings – especially if you take advantage of their sample policy. Just don’t expect typical designer fragrances, as these are definitely more in the natural/essential oil direction.
